Used Cars Under 3000 Dollars

If you are in the market for used cars under 3000 dollars then you will find you really have limited inventory to choose from.  You probably will be forced to buy either a vehicle that is more than a few years old or a slightly newer vehicle with a lot of miles.

Actually, there are quite a few vehicles for sale online that are being sold for under $3,000 but you will find yourself weeding through a lot of the not so desirable vehicles and vehicles that will probably require repairs to get them running as they should.

Used Cars Under 3000 Dollars

For older vehicles in this price ranges, you are probably looking at cars and trucks that are 10 years old or older.  Some examples that you can find on Craigslist at the time of this writing can be found below.

  • 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass – 108,000 miles – $2,700
  • 1999 VW Jetta – 144,000 miles – $2,700
  • 1995 Lexus – 133,000 miles – $3,000
  • 1998 Dodge Intrepid – 164,000 miles – $2,800

There are some great options on Craigslist but most are between 10 – 20 years old and have well over 100,00 miles on them.  If you are considering buying an older vehicle like this you should really look at some of the more dependable models of cars.  Toyota and Honda are two makes that are known for longevity and dependability.

If your have a restrictive budget like this, it might be more advisable to find an older vehicle that has been very well taken care of that preferably has had only one owner.  Again, going with those makes that are known for their longevity and durability is a good idea.

Finding the KBB Value of a Used Car

Whenever you buy a vehicle from a private seller, it is a very good idea to check the value of the prospective vehicle in the Kelley Blue Book.  The Kelley Blue Book, or KBB, is the top authority in used vehicle values.

Their website at kbb.com contains a wealth of information that will help you make a good car buying decision.  Topics such as how much to pay for a new car, how much to pay for a used car, what is my car worth, and more is covered in detail.

However, in my opinion, the best resource on the site is the Blue Book Value tool which allows you to get the trade-in value and private party value of your vehicle.  This is an invaluable tool for anyone who is buying or selling a vehicle.

The KBB value contains values for vehicles that are in different mechanical and cosmetic conditions.  This is important if you only want cars that in great condition because you can really pinpoint makes and models that fall into your price range that won’t require any immediate repairs.

In summary, it is definitely possible to buy used cars under 3000 dollars but you must realize that you will be looking at older vehicles with high mileage.
